Jamie Squire has been a professional photojournalist since joining the staff of Allsport, now a part of Getty Images, in 1994. With a background in Art History and a degree in liberal arts from Emory University in Atlanta, Jamie began his career specializing in sports. He has covered every major sporting event around the world including Super Bowls, World Series, NBA and Stanley Cup Finals, NCAA Championships, Golf and Tennis Majors, the Kentucky Derby, World Cup Soccer, and 10 Olympic Games. His clients have included newspapers and magazines such as the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, ESPN Magazine, Time, and Sports Illustrated. He has done commercial work for major corporations including Coca Cola, Nike, Reebok, and USA Network.

Barns of the Midwest evolved from Jamie’s artistic exploration of psychology of place. Born and raised in Washington, DC, surrounded by urbanity and history in the classical sense, it wasn’t until moving to Kansas City that old road signs, deteriorating buildings and dirt roads sparked his visual appetite for the pastoral, places where nature exceeded culture. When a friend commissioned Jamie to create a unique image of a barn to become the focal point of his office, the barn project was born. He became fascinated with classic barn structures where everything seemed rustic and weathered and made to age gracefully. Finding the “right” barn became the biggest challenge. No two barns are alike but some elicit more of an emotional response than others. What makes one barn visually speak to someone and not another? How does a collection of symbolic meanings, context of space, and attachment with a spatial setting lead to emotional satisfaction? What myriad purposes do barns serve their owners and why are some newly built while others are allowed to wither and decay? Answers to these questions are what Jamie seeks to illustrate through his pursuit of the “right” barn while travelling the world on his assignments. Capturing and revealing majesty in stoic, enduring structures provides Jamie with the perfect antidote to the fleeting, frenzied chaos contained within the world of sport.

DYE-SUBLIMATION ONTO ALUMINUM
Sublimation onto aluminum is a process of infusing dyes into a sheet of pre-treated aluminum via heat transfer. Sublimation is the process of going from a solid to a gas, back to a solid - skipping the liquid state. Once the dyes submerge underneath the surface, the process is permanent.
